About

Location and collaboration

The project is carried out in northern Sweden, with Gällivare municipality as the project owner. It is developed in collaboration with Quiet Parks International, whose work focuses on the identification and protection of quiet environments worldwide.

Project initiator

World’s Quietest Place was initiated by Pontus Wikström, who is responsible for the project’s conceptual development, documentation, and communication.

He is also Chair of Quiet Parks International in Sweden and has worked extensively with the inventory and communication of quiet natural areas in northern Sweden. His work includes field-based documentation, public outreach, and collaboration with municipalities and regional actors.

In parallel, he has developed educational formats exploring how people can relate to natural environments in ways that support presence, attention, and recovery, including an online course focused on deeper and more conscious nature experience.

The initiative builds on long-term work with quiet environments, nature experience, and the relationship between sound, presence, and recovery. The role of the initiator is not to speak on behalf of the place, but to help make its conditions visible and understandable.

Collaboration and support

World’s Quietest Place is an open and publicly anchored project.
Organizations, institutions, and partners interested in collaboration, research dialogue, or long-term support are welcome to get in touch.

Further information about the project’s scope and intentions can be found on the start page and in the FAQ section.

The aim is both concrete and broader in scope.
